Jazz and Christmas has a lengthy and often fraught relationship. The one time in the year when the hippest of musical form lapses headlong into schmaltz. This is often the time of the year when the smoothest smooth jazz Christmas tropes pumps out of elevators, malls, and airport lounges.

This year is no exception with established vocal star Gregory Porter and rising vocal star Samara Joy waxing achingly sentimental Christmas releases. You could say that they are tipping their hats to a century-old jazz tradition of yule-tinged recordings going back to the daddy of them all-Bing Crosby

But not for me.

However, given that we’re closing in on one of the toughest years I can recall I feel obliged to rise to the challenge of supplying you with a jazz soundtrack to provide background to your end-of-year celebrations. Two and half hours of reasonably hip, mildly unsentimental seasonal jazz .

I hope you do enjoy.

Happy Holidays
