Now that the countdown has begun to December 31st here’s a playlist packed with rhythmic, funky, soulful jazz tracks to brighten up your New Year’s Eve and the early days of 2023.
Over six hours of music, no smooth jazz in sight, naturally, just a wide selection of jazz and jazz-tinged grooves to keep you going through the night into the early hours. I’d say all, well almost all are eminently danceable.

Sonny Rollins – Way Out West
The only image to accompany the new year playlist is a killer photo of saxophone colossus Sonny Rollins that adorns his mid-50’s Way Out West album. You should listen to it all. Back in the day, I’m talking early 70’s, I had to comb the racks of London record emporiums for a couple of years to lay may hands on a vinyl copy. That’s where the picture comes from.
